Movie Review: Star Trek into Darkness

It was awesome! Ok this isn’t a proper movie review, although I’d like start doing them….maybe another time. Went to see Star Trek into Darkness yesterday with my girlfriend at the IMAX in Manchester and loved it just as much if not more than the first one, J J Abrams is is a fantastic director and captured the same Star Trek feeling he did in the first film.

The action and special effects were fantastic, there were numerous story twists and several moment where old star trek fans will go “ooooh”, but that’s not to say non-fans won’t like or understand it, quite the opposite, they will hopefully love it :)

The characters had some great lines, most notably ‘Bones’ and ‘Scotty’ who never fail to produce a laugh. The only odd moment being an emotional scene between Kirk and Spock, it didn’t feel quite right, especially for Spock, but it fit the story and didn’t reduce the films overall greatness :)

So overall I really enjoyed the film, and got a badge as well :P looking forward to JJ Abrams doing the new Star Wars films :)

The expensive sunglasses

Someone at work has recently bought some brand name sunglasses for £115….is it just me or is that just silly for a pair of sunglasses?

Ok everyone needs their vices, and I’m planning to spend £150 on a google nexus 7, however he is always telling me that playing games is stupid and a waste of time. My argument is he has no right to say this if he can spend THAT MUCH on a pair of sunglasses. Someone else came to his defence claiming that the expensive ones will stop you going blind from UV rays…..I’m sorry, DON’T LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN THEN!

However so long as he doesn’t annoy me saying that things I do in my spare time are stupid and a waste of time I won’t bother him….apart from if he wears them when we go for walks on our dinners….cos they make him look like a Blues Brother :P

Super update

Ok ok I’m useless and keeping up with this blog, but I’m well intentioned. Now I shall begin a super update of everything that has gone on.

FIRST, the World Championships. This was one of the best things I’ve ever done, I had such a fantastic time and loved every second. The plane was ace, it had films and tv and and outside camera (very cool on takeoff and landing), try as I might I couldn’t sleep on the way back because there was soooo much to watch, so I made it up in a French airport while we waited 7 hours for our flight back (not so amasing). Anyway, the tournament itself was ace, so many people who love martial arts, and nobody was rude or anything, sure a few fights broke out (that weren’t intended) but usually it was coaches arguing with judges which is just them supporting their fighters. Do you want to know about me? I came second, yes second in the World! it’s a pretty awesome title….not a huge amount of competition but nevermind, I was happy with my performance. My good friend Izzy did great as well and only missed out because of slippery mats and biased Canadian judges (boo) - speaking of which Izzy has just taken her Second degree Black Belt, no results yet but she’ll have done it easy :) Canada itself was cool, although I would rather of been in a less French part lol still the food was heavenly, ate at a proper American diner every morning! Did I mention that we got taken to and from the hotel in yellow schoolbuses!!!!

Hmm this was meant to be a quick super update…not going that way….nevermind, CONTINUE, SECOND, my birthday :) well being 22 it wasn’t the biggest birthday ever, but I insist that every birthday should be great and it was. Samantha suprised the hell out of me by turning up out of the blue when I thought she was in Manchester, best, birthday present, ever! I don’t think she’ll ever forget the look on my face, she’s amasing :) she also got me tickets to see Michael McIntyre! (think I mentioned that?) He was truly amasing and we both laughed our heads off, I highly recommend his new dvd Showtime. Also my Dad got me a really nice pair of headphones and the sound quality is superb :) hmm too many smiley faces…… :)

THIRD, Special Constable application. This is slightly more complicated, I now have a timetable for my training in the new year and at least one of my references has been accepted, but I haven’t passed my medical :/ (remind me someone to tell you what happened on the morning I went for my medical), anyway, apparently I have a hearing problem?!?! I’ve miss heard plenty of people but thought I just wasn’t paying attention…perhaps not. At least I know now, I’m going to see a specialist on the 6th, *fingers crossed*. I’m hoping this doesn’t cause a problem with my application as I’m so looking forward to it *toes crossed*.

Anyway that’s me done for now, hopefully do some more updates soon. I’m going to go watch the rest of Les Miserable 25th Anniversary then go to bed, night!

Return to the blog

I have finally returned to my blog, and hopefully I will keep up with it a bit better :)

Samantha had a good theory about this and I’m inclined to agree, when she is here I usually speak to her about all the ravings that come into my head, and as she’s such a good girlfriend she actually listens. I can’t say I would have the patience in her place haha I can go on for quite some time. Anyway, she’s unfortunately back in Manchester at university now so she’s not around to talk to as much. Of course, I talk to her on the phone all the time, and skype, but when she’s hanging out with me for hours on end things come into my head which don’t on the phone. Anyway, doing a blog not only gives me a place to let out everything in my head but also she can read it, which she apparently enjoys. This made me smile a lot when she told me :)

Needless to say I’m missing her, and would love to visit her, but since I’m going to Canada in a week time (World Championships! Woo!) it’s just not possible. I am going to go see her not once, but TWICE, in quick succession after I get back. The second time will be us going to see Michael McIntyre because she has got me tickets for my birthday! Which just rocks :)

So in conclusion, I should be on here more, missing Samantha, World Championships in a week, my birthday in less than a month…..oh and I passed my interview to be a Special Constable! Woo :D

More to come soon…hopefully

Tumblr Neglect

Ok….I kinda feel bad. I’ve been neglecting all your lovely people that…I’m not sure exactly read my blog but you never know! I hope someone does….I know some friends check it out from time to time, and I know my girlfriend does :) but it would be nice to know if anyone I don’t know personally checks it. Send me a message if this is you! :D

Anyway I got off topic, I have been neglecting my blog, bad RossTiger. For some reason I chose 20 to midnight to update it, when I really should be sleeping, or reading….which is far more likely.

Ok I’ll keep it short, upcoming posts will include:

  • World Championships Update
  • Kung Fu thoughts
  • Minecraft fun times
  • And other random stuff which doesn’t come to mind right now…

Also, its unlikely I will ever keep up with things like MixTapeMonday, so I’m not gonna try. And if you think you can get me doing SexySaturday you have another think coming! haha I’ll probably post videos etc from time to time though, usually comedy or martial arts :)

The World Championships!

Helloo everyone

As promised I am now going to tell you about the WKC World Championships. These Championships have been going on for many years now and take place in a different country every year, the last two years were held in Portugal and Spain, and this year it’s being held in Montreal, Canada. The competition brings together a whole host of people from different countries and nations around the world.

All sorts of styles compete, Karate, Kung Fu, Kickboxers and I’m sure many many others. Most of the categories are points or semi-contact fighting, however there are some other categories for Kata and weapons. Kata is a Karate word and is what Kung Fu would call forms. It’s a set routine designed to demonstrate physical ability, skill, technique and spirit. While you don’t actually fight anyone, the movement are created with attack and defence in mind, therefore nearly all the moves displayed in forms could be used in a combat situation.

I have been lucky enough to qualifiy for the World Championships at this years first Birtish Open in Manchester, which was held in February of this year. I qualified in Soft Style Open hand Forms, which basically means Kung Fu forms. Hard style tends to refer to Karate’s Kata’s as they are….more solid? Not sure how to describe it lol but our movements are designed to flow more, hence, soft style.

I’m soooo excited to be going, specially since it’s in Canada, and am really enjoying having something this big….no….HUGE, to aim for while I’m training, my sets have really progressed since I qualified. I’m not gonna pretend I have a huge chance of winning, but I’m gonna give it my best dam shot!

Due to the cost of the trip, this might be the only chance I get to go, not to mention qualifiying every year. Therefore I’m throwing everything I’ve got into the competition so I can have the best time ever! The trip costs a total of £1200, or around that, and I’ve already managed to raise about £450 of that. So far for sponsorship I have:

  • Been to a live football match (I’ve never been as I’m not really a football fan)
  • Given up my Xbox for a month.

These might not seem that big, and your right, they are minor ones, but from the 11th - 15th June I’m biking to work for a week. Now let me explain, my work is 13 miles out of town, that 26 miles a day there and back, and 130 miles for the whole week…..it’s gonna be interesting.

Anyone who would like to sponsor me I’d really appreciate it, this event means the world to me :)
